In 2003, DeWalt Industrial Power Tool Co. signed a multi-year extension to continue as the primary sponsor of the #17 DeWalt Tools Ford Taurus driven by Matt Kenseth in the NASCAR Cup Series. "The extension of the DeWalt relationship means a lot to me," said the Cambridge, Wisconsin native. "DeWalt has been my primary sponsor since I began in the Busch Series and I’m happy to know that we’ll be together many more years in the Nextel Cup Series". With his trademark black and yellow paint scheme Matt Kenseth was again in the hunt for 2006 Nextel Cup. With two tenth place finishes and eight races to go, Matt ranked third in the standings for the Cup. At the end he finished second to Jimmie Johnson in the cup standings.
